Operator-Required Equipment Policy

How S.H.E.D. handles equipment that requires a qualified operator.

Classification

S.H.E.D. classifies equipment into four operational categories: Standard — Self Use (renter may operate subject to rental terms), Enhanced Caution (may require additional experience or safeguards), Operator Required (renter may not independently operate; owner or qualified operator must accompany), and Prohibited (may not be listed or rented).

Operator-Required Bookings

When equipment is classified as Operator Required, the normal self-service rental workflow does not allow the renter to agree to operate the equipment themselves. Instead, an operator-assisted booking workflow is used. The owner/operator and renter must agree to the applicable service arrangement before the booking is confirmed.

Admin Controls

S.H.E.D. administrators can classify equipment as self-use, enhanced caution, operator required, or prohibited. Ordinary users cannot override these classifications. Changes to equipment classification create an audit record.
